Traffic Violation Application
Case Study
The Product
Spot violations using mobile application OCR technology to report them to police. Helping in immediate
clearance of violations.
Problem Statement:
Inspectors find it tedious to reduce increasing traffic violations in spotting and filling them
on all roads and collect charges from public.
People who spot violations are getting into arguments not able to report to police on immediately.
Requirements:
- Violation Detection (helmet detection)
- Highlight violators with vehicle details (vehicle type)
- Ability to capture number plates
- Place to validate violation and generate tickets by comparing with online information (vehicle type, etc.)
- Possible to fetch reports for analysis locations of increasing violation and time range for the event occurrence
- Immediate notifications and auto allotting nearby traffic police to clear the vehicles and collecting the charges
The Project:
A single mobile application which can be used by both public and traffic police. Public. can report violations to police
and get rewarded. Police gets all violations in their mobile application, all he have to do is validate and approve them.
User Flow:
Before I started any research, I build a user flow for current process how violations are being handled. My goal here is
to minimise the efforts put in by traffic police inspectors to spotting and filing violations
by involving the general public.
Personas
Traffic Police Inspector Persona
James, Bangalore south
Based on the interviews/workshop we set up with two personas. We referred to them throughout
the entire product development process.
General Public Persona
Nagarajan, Bangalore
Based on user interviews we set up with a single personas. Interview started with the way
city is performing to what steps are necessary to solve the problem.
Field Studies and Surveys
I conducted field studies and sent out survey forms to collect insights.
Guiding Questions:
- What environments user are working in?
- What devices are used by them massively?
- What is causing pressure at work?
- What frustrates them the most?
- What are the biggest problem to solve here?
- How the collected insights influence the design decisions?
Paper Sketches:
After completing my initial research, I sketch ideas. This allows for many leading iterations through varying design options.
Visual Design
First impression can be stolen by Visual Design. My findings during the interviews and research phase clearly
showed what are user expectations and keeping that in mind experience and visual designs were developed.
